Dr Linlin Ge, University of New South Wales and Visiting Professor, NSW Land and Property Management Authority Winner: Physics, Earth Sciences, Chemistry and Astronomy Category, NSW Scientist of the Year 2009 Awards
Dr Linlin Ge is currently an Associate Professor in the School of Surveying and Spatial Information Systems at the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Visiting Professor at the NSW Land and Property Management Authority (LPMA), and Project Leader with the Cooperative Research Centre for Spatial Information (CRCSI).
In May 2008 his expertise enabled detailed, near real-time satellite assessment of a devastating earthquake measuring 8.0 on the Richter Scale that struck the Wenchuan region of Sichuan Province of China, impacting 250,000 square kilometres and claiming over 80,000 lives. In February 2009 he and his team successfully applied remote sensing satellites in supporting bushfire fighting in Victoria.
Dr Ge’s research includes radar and optical remote sensing, building and bridge deformation monitoring and innovative applications of GPS. He is a representative on the National Committee of the Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Commission of the Surveying and Spatial Sciences Institute.
