2006 Young Tall Poppy Science Award Recipients

Fifteen bright young scientists were named Young Tall Poppies for 2006/2007 for their outstanding contributions to areas ranging from galaxy evolution to cancer cells.

The 2006/2007 award winners were:

• Dr Alaina Ammit, University of Sydney – asthma and airway remodelling
• Dr James Curran, University of Sydney – computational linguistics
• Dr Nathan Daczko, Macquarie University – structural geology
• Dr Louisa Degenhardt, University of New South Wales – illegal drug trends
• Dr Kirstie Fryirs, Macquarie University – fluvial geomorphology and river management
• Dr Andrew Harris, University of Sydney – sustainable technology
• Dr Andrew Hopkins, University of Sydney – astrophysics
• Dr Ulrike Mathesius, Australian National University – plant microbial interactions
• Dr Adam Micolich, University of New South Wales – nanoscale electronic devices
• Dr Geraldine O’Neill, The Children’s Hospital, Westmead – cancer cell biology
• Leigh Sheppard, University of New South Wales – solid state chemistry
• Dr Stuart Tangye, Garvan Institute of Medical Research – human immunology
• Dr David Tscharke, Australian National University – immunology and virology
