Young Tall Poppy Science Awards Young Tall Poppy Science Awards

The prestigious Young Tall Poppy Science Awards aim to recognise the achievements of Australia's outstanding young researchers in the sciences working in universities, research institutes and laboratories in private industry, private practice and government organisations. The sciences include physical, biomedical and applied sciences, engineering and biotechnology.

Coming from diverse specialist fields ranging from public mental health, genetic research, organ transplants and reproductive health to nanotechnology, environmental engineering and telecommunications research, the Young Tall Poppy Science Award winners are emerging stars of the future.

Part of the Tall Poppy Campaign, the Awards are run by the Australian Institute of Policy and Science which initiated the program in 1998. The NSW Awards are supported by the NSW Office for Science and Medical Research.

Selection criteria include outstanding scholarship and research and community engagement in the understanding and promotion of science. The awards are made are made on a state-by-state basis and are held every year in different states. The awards recognise the achievements of researchers, generally aged between 25 and 35, although "late bloomers" up to their early 40s are also eligible.

Nominations for the 2008 NSW Young Tall Poppy Science Awards close on Friday, 1 August 2008.
